Unit 10
First Client Brief set on 11/09/19:
I was set the brief to make a Bollywood movie trailer style video for a wedding. The brief was set by the best man. The basic outline for the video is a Bollywood themed video which will include pre-recorded videos sent from the best man alongside edited clips from existing films. They want a face replacement on movie clips from weel known Bollywood films, where the characters faces are replaced with pictures of the bride and groom. They want the video to include classic and well known Bollywood music and sound effects. The rough duration of the video is aiming to be around 4-5 minutes long. The client has created a film style poster and wants that to be included in the video and to link to the rest of the video. The general aim is to entertain and for the video to be funny, but not tacky. The deadline for the video is 10th October and the wedding is on 19th October.
I want to meet the clients brief but be sensitive to the use of humour. It is still someone's wedding and that needs to be respected. I still want the video to have an air of elegance and to follow something similar to my style.
By the end of this week, I am hoping to have a clear plan and have already made contact with the client to start fully understanding his vision. I have less than a month so I want to start production ASAP. This will be a challenge as I am not too confident with video editing and it will definitely a new skillset I will have to learn. However, I am very eager to get started and like all my work, I will do it to the best of my ability and I will try my best to match the client's needs as much as I can.
First Contact Made With Client: 12/09/19:
I sent the client an email to acknowledge the fact that I have received and accepted his brief and that I had a few questions of my own to make the best video I could possibly create. I also wanted to get the videos, photos and music from the client that he wants to include so I could start production as soon as possible. I am still waiting for the client to reply but in the meantime, I am going to make a plan so that when I receive the clips, I can start making the video as soon as possible.
Further contact with the client: 12/09/19 - 13/09/19:
Final Product:
This was the final product. The brief was to make a Bollywood style film trailer using all the images and videos provided by the client. With constant communication with the client and his input along the way, I am happy with the final product and think I successfully met the brief given in the short time frame provided.

This email conversation was really helpful. I managed in just two days to gauge the direction of the video and managed to see the vision the client has for the video. We have moved the conversation from email to What's App as its easier to stay in constant communication and to keep the client in the loop.
From the conversations and videos I have had so far, I am really excited to make this video and work with the client.
I am going to call the client on Monday and discuss a narrative for the trailer and to fully understand the intricacies of the trailer.
What's App Conversations:
The last interactions I had with the client were really useful. I discussed a rough direction on which I feel the trailer should be heading. The main things that came out of these conversations were photos and videos that he wants to use in the trailer. He said which videos and songs must be included in the trailer.
I have made a start on the video, I am struggling to meet all the expectations of the clients and will have to have another phone call with him to explain the hurdles I am facing and maybe rethink some of his suggestions. I have also made good progress with the client for Unit 10. We had another phone call and I sent him a rough cut of the video so far and got some feedback on how he feels so far. It's taking shape nicely, but still has a long way to go!
Conversation Log:
This is a screen recording of the back and forth communications between the client and I. This gives you a rough idea of much we communicated with each other. It was pretty much every day which was good as there were no long breaks where there was no communication so the client constantly felt in the loop.

Client Feedback:
The client's event was on Saturday 19th October so I sent him the final product on Thursday. He was happy with the product and was hopeful that it will be well received at the wedding.
Audience Reaction:
This is a video recorded by the client of the audience's reaction to the video. It was really nice of him to record that as it made it feel that the video was well received and that the hard work and intense month of work were worth it.
Final Client Feedback Form:
I sent the client a feedback form to fill out and below are his answers. I am extremely happy with my feedback and couldn't have asked for better feedback.
How well did the learners communicate with you?
Very well - via email and WhatsApp. Ideally would have liked a few faces to face meetings and more phone calls as I feel that would have helped to accelerate the understanding of my requirements. However, I believe the student was restricted by the rules of the college. All in all, though communication was good and Jaya was always extremely attentive to my messages, questions and requests, making sure she would respond to each of them quickly and effectively.

How well did
they complete tasks on time?
All tasks were completed in the time frame given. Jaya was extremely busy with other college work and ensured she made time to deliver this project within the deadline, which I am extremely grateful for.

Are you
happy with the final product/service completed by the learners?
Extremely happy - Couldn’t really have asked for better in the time she had to deliver this project. Everything that was implemented was exactly what I had asked for. All the transitions between the clips and the way the clips were changed from portrait phone videos to horizontal widescreen (cropped) looked very professional. Jaya worked exceptionally hard and put in a tremendous amount of effort to make sure every single requirement was met. Also, I believe I was a very difficult client to please due to the many different ideas I had. She told me what was achievable in the time frame whilst giving me her creative input of what she felt would and wouldn’t work.

What is one the area you felt they could have performed better in?
I feel she perfected the final product to make it exactly what I wanted in the time frame given. The only thing I can think of is the main reason I enlisted the help of Stanmore College in the first place and not make the video myself. In my first project brief, I ideally wanted face replacement (overlaying a photo of a face onto a moving video with motion tracking) to be implemented, as my video editing skills do not allow me to do that. I felt that by enlisting the help of media student who has access to this knowledge would allow this to be done fairly easily. Unfortunately after speaking with her supervisors and trying to make it, I was told that this would not be able to be done properly and look good enough because of the time frame they had to do it in. However as this is something I really wanted to be included, I downloaded an app on my phone and done it myself, and it achieved the exact effect I wanted. I do understand that this is no fault of Jaya because after speaking to a few professional video editors they informed me that doing this kind of effect on premiere pro is very difficult to do properly and takes a lot of time, something Jaya did not have a lot of. I was told that the apps on the phone are easier and more powerful to do this kind of effects.

Additional Comments:
I am extremely happy with the final product and couldn’t have asked for better. It was delivered in time, which was the main concern and It was extremely well received at the wedding reception and got lots of laughs in all the right places. I can’t honestly thank Jaya and her colleagues/supervisors enough for all the hard work and effort that was put in. I was told that I would be assigned the best student to deliver my vision and that was definitely the case. I consider myself exceptionally lucky to have Jaya work on this project with me. She was both a pleasure and a delight to work with and if the opportunity should arise I will definitely be enlisting her help again and will be 100% recommending her work to others. I would highly recommend that her effort and work on this project is highly commended by the college as she worked very hard on this and the outcome was excellent, which is more than evident in the final video!
Extra client work:
Due to COVID-19, I reached out to some local primary schools to see if there was anything I could do to help. I mentioned the course I am doing alongside the media skills I have. The school got back to me and asked if I would help produce some videos from the teachers to the children to help keep them engaged and set them at home tasks in a fun way.
I was really excited to take this task on. Not only was it my way to help out during the pandemic but it also helped me further develop my skills on Premiere Pro.
I have produced two videos for them so far. One was just from one teacher to her class to set them their activity for the week and the other was from all the teachers within the year group. I am really happy with how they turned out as I wasn't given much to work with. The brief was very broad and they didn't have very many expectations.

Above are the links to both videos I have made so far. The links go the videos on my google drive. I can't upload them to YouTube due to GDPR and safeguarding reasons. Like I said before, I am happy with how they turned out, especially the second one where all the teachers and passing the book to one another. They gave me the brief that they all wanted to read the same book. So I split the book into four and told them which way to pass the book. I think it turned out really well and will be well received by their students.
Thank you so much for all of your help and support in this difficult time.

Client Feedback
Overall, I got a really good response from all the teachers, but I ask for one of them to fill in the feedback form on behalf of the whole year group. The feedback was not that detailed as the teachers are very busy at this moment of time, but I am still very happy with the feedback I did receive.
For the sake of our learners’ continued development, we ask that you provide some feedback on their performance in these areas.
How well did the learners communicate with you?
The communication was impeccable and the learner responded very efficiently. She was very polite and could not be more helpful. Due to the current situation the video had to be tailored specifically for primary school children and Jaya was able to carry this out and was very patient.

Are you happy with the final product/service completed by the learners?
The final products have been perfect and have surpassed any expectations we had. Parents and children watching the end product have given positive feedback and it has really helped to engage primary school children.

What is one the area you felt they could have performed better in?
Jaya could be more confident in her ideas, the music she provided was better than the music I found myself. She should be more forward in her ideas as they are amazing!
